Quake 3 Arena

Overview

These are a sample of the various maps I created for Quake 3 Arena. Most are meant for small numbers of players, but a few, particularly the two CTF maps, support larger groups.

Well of Mortality (q3sdm8)

This gothic themed map has a layout simple enough for dueling, but is spacious enough for up to six players. The large "well" is a choice combat zone, but for ammo and health players need to circle through the other sections of the map.

80 Tons (q3sdm9)

Set in a large mech factory, this map supports up to 12 players. Take care when passing through the missile pod diagnostics room. An opponent may choose to activate them all by shooting the target on the ledge above.

Conch (q3sdm10)

Deviating from the typical "stone-and-steel" megalithic architecture of quake, I went for a more organic approach in this map. Good for two to three people, players battle it out inside a giant organism.

Figure Hate (q3sdm11)

The "level floating in the void" became a hallmark style for Quake 3 Arena, particularly for dueling maps. This one uses a general flow of a figure-eight, or perhaps an infinity symbol, depending on your preference. Comfortably supports between two to three combatants.

Giant's Tear (q3sdm12)

This small map features a hexagonal layout and quick traversal via jump pads. The quad damage is accessible above the rocket launcher, but at the cost of health from the explosive jump needed to get it. Two is company, while three is a crowd.

No Man's Council (nmc011)

As next in line in the deathmatch series, the proper map name should be q3sdm13, but unexpected data loss stopped development shortly before the map was to be finalized. The action is very vertical, with most of it taking place in a spiraling central chamber. Players can get to the top via the ramps, jump pads, or connecting rooms and hallways.

Fountain

This is a small "arena" style dueling map, meant for 2 to 3 players. Players start off with all weapons except the BFG. Movement about the map is quick, using teleporters or jump pads. The fountain in the middle replenishes health slowly, but it is a tactically disadvantageous place to hang around for too long.

Toxin Refinery 2 (q3sctf5)

This map sets itself a part with a balanced asymmetrical layout. Teams can battle for the flag in the upper areas of the map or take the one-way routes beneath to sneak behind enemy lines.

Hard Steel (q3sdm_hs & q3sctf_hs)

This map is featured as both a Deathmatch and a Capture the Flag map. The Deathmatch map is good for up to 6 players, and the CTF naturally supports twice that number. The first level provides amor, second provides health, and the third provides connectivity.
